Kye and I got up in time to see the sun rise this morning. Sun rise here is at 5:48 a.m. so you can see we were a little excited to get started. We had plenty of time to get ready since we started out from Yorktown after putting our back tires in the Atlantic Ocean at 9:00 a.m. and 4 hours 32 minutes 36 seconds of riding time later we finished in Glendale at Willis United Methodist Church.
For the first 17 miles we rode in larger groups. We didn’t ride hard and we were just getting to know each other. We went thru historic Williamsburg which was very nice. There were a lot of people dressed up in the early 1700s clothes. It was really well done. The first rest stop was at 21 miles and at this point we started breaking up in small groups.
I started riding with a couple of other “Old” riders. We all rode about the same pace so it was helpful in sharing the pulling duties.
The ride was actually 62+ miles with 1910 feet elevation change. The elevation changes will help us when we get into real climbing in about 5 more days.
The Church is providing us dinner which is much appreciated.
Everyone is sleeping in the church or an adjacent meeting room building. So no tent or car camping tonight. We are very happy with this arrangement for the first night.
Attached is a picture of the sun rise the tire dip and the Church sign. After we eat we will be hitting the hay quickly.
