Stayed at Luther Memorial Church but we slept in the tent. With this being a rest day we were able to sleep in. I didn’t get up until 7:30 a.m. but Kye was up at 5:30.
We went to McDonalds for breakfast so we would be ready for our service project today.
We broke up into two separate groups. Our group went to Radford to a lady’s home. She was diagnosed with MS over two years ago. She has two daughters and has trouble keeping up with the yard. She gave us a small list of things to do, such as mow and weed eat the yard and repair a small child’s play house that had fallen down during a high wind storm.
We took that list and stretched it out to include: mow and weed eat the front and back yards, rebuild the child play house on their back patio as well as completely wash the structure, rework a retaining wall in the backyard, rebuild a rock fire pit, rake the yards clear of dead grass, weeds and tree limbs, trim all the hedges and trees, clean all the basement window wells that had wood and misc. debris, clean and wash the external basement steps after removing tree limbs, children’s toys, etc., repaired the gate to the backyard and fixed a loose board on the patio that was a trip hazard.
This team of 11 people lead by Cassie Wertz, Executive Director of this MS Tour group made short work of this challenge.
Once we returned to the church we were on our own to explore the city, eat and relax.
Tomorrow we are “Back on the Road Again” for 12 days.
Thank you for your posts, Dave
They make my day
Hope Kye is getting comfortable traveling cross country. She will see parts of the USA few people do.
Congratulations to you both on this adventure.
