Minneapolis to Dalbo 70 miles

We have a group meeting scheduled at 9:30 a.m. so we can ride as a group to the Fairview MS Achievement Center.  This is where adult day care services provides services to support seniors who desire to remain in their own private homes as long as possible.

The patients all lined up and cheered as we walked into the facilities.   Then we were provided some snacks as we talked to the patients, heard their stories and challenges.  I was able to get a number of them to sign a MS scarf as a memorial to the day.  I was really impressed and with their strength and desire to fight this terrible disease.

The patients were following our daily progress and also tracked their physical exercise efforts in the form of miles so they could relate to our efforts.

This was one of the best mornings of our ride.

Then we were on our way to Dalbo, the place for the night.  This was the “Adventure Bicylist Bunkhouse.

It was a great place to stay and they provided us with dinner and breakfast.

Rest Day

This is a true rest day.  No service project, no riding just laundry, clean the bike and reorganize gear.

We started out with breakfast at “The original pancake house” in Minneapolis MN.  We got there about 7:30 a.m. before the crowd arrived.

They had a numerous selection which was all good and filling.  Before we left there was a waiting line just about out the door.  We traveled both ways via Uber.  It is becoming the travel mode of choice.

Once back the first order of business was laundry.  I had enough to completely fill the  washer.  I was the only one at the time to be doing any laundry which was a huge change from yesterday.  It is great to get everything clean and repacked.

By the time the laundry was complete it was time to eat again.  Our stomachs really rule on rest days.

Then it was bike tender loving care time.  With all the rain we have been riding in, our bikes were caked with mud and gravel.  Once that was removed, we lubricated our chains and derailleurs.

Tomorrow we get back on the bikes.  It is time to go.

Service Project Day

We went out for breakfast before going out to do the service project.  We took Uber to get there so this was a training session for me.  Tim gave me a demo, of which I tried to follow.  After breakfast, it was my turn to use Uber on my phone.  Tim watch my every move so it was successful.

There were two separate projects and the one that we were assigned to was for a Lady that has MS.  We met her, her husband and her son for some breakfast snacks before starting our project which we painting the exterior of their house.  Our team of 10 along with her husband and son jumped into the project.

We had a lot of tools at our disposal, rollers, rollers with extensions, foam brushes, and a paint brush extension.  The main part of the house was painted beige and the trim a kind of red.  We all worked hard and together we completed everything except the back yard.

After we finished and returned to the dorm we thought we would do our laundry only to find all the machines were taken by other younger people that were in the dorm.

Around 3:30 I made my solo Uber trip to meet a former high school class mate and her husband that lived in the area.  I made it to the restaurant early because I didn’t know how long it would take via Uber.  We had a great time catching up and they were very interested in what I was doing.

I got back to the dorm in time to go to the grocery store to pick up some much needed supplies.
