Virtual 50th High School Reunion Bike Ride

April 22, 2020 was supposed to be the first day of my bike ride to Logan Kansas for my 50th High School class reunion, but was not to happen.  I didn’t want to miss the ride so I have started riding today anyway.  But not to Logan Kansas.

I have decided to ride the number of miles I would have ridden on the trip but all alone and in my neighborhood.   Even the night before was just like any other long distance ride.  I couldn’t sleep and when I did all I just dreamed about the ride.

Around 3 am I woke up and heard the birds singing and it sounded like they were laughing at me.  How did they know?  They kept me awake for about an hour.

I was awake before my alarm went off at 6:00, just like all the other rides.

I was ready to take off by 7:00 a.m. for the short 89 mile ride.

So today’s ride is from Pearland Texas to Sealy Texas.  I have ridden this actual route before a few years ago to do a charity ride the next day.   Today’s weather was cloudy warm and windy.  Like all windy days the wind seems to be in my face most of the day.  I know that can’t happen but when the wind is at your back you don’t notice it as much.

I wanted to do all these rides in honor of a good friend of mine, Phil Goodpaster, who has Parkinson ’s disease.  He used to be an avid bike rider also so we have had so many great times reminiscing various rides.  He has all the three state’s maps of this ride that show my exact route.

But while riding I received a message from one on my High School classmates Regina Brooks Wilson and she informed that her husband Ron Wilson had died from a massive heart attack.   I got the chance to meet Ron last year when I was riding the Northern Tier Route with Bike the US for MS  through Minneapolis Minnesota where we had a great dinner next to the Mall of America.  Since receiving the information I had dedicated todays ride in the name of Ron Wilson.

Since I am riding alone my routes over 60 miles will be in two segments.  This will allow me to get lunch at home since all the cafes are take out only and it is hard to set on the curb of the road and eat.  This way Kye can support me easier.  The first part of the ride was around 60 miles leaving 36 miles for the second segment.

I wanted for let you see my riding area.  I will not attached one each day since I will be riding many or parts of the same roads every day.
