Day 17 Hays to Logan KS 70 miles.  The last day.

We start north out of Hays on US 183.  We would have been faced with Low 40 temperature with a strong north wind around 20 mph.  The ride would take us through Plainville at 25 miles Stockton 40 miles and Glade at 18 miles.  All of this ride would have been directly north and directly into the wind.  Welcome home.  The wind is a way of life in Kansas, but I would have definitely suffered.  Once at Glade we would have turn west on Kansas Highway 9 for 15 miles into Logan.

Even though the wind would have been coming from our side it would have been tough because on these country highways the road goes through hills that were cut out so in between these hills the wind hits you like a ton of bricks.

I would then pass the even bigger town of Speed Kansas.  The town has two clams of fame.  One Gayle Sayers used to live on a farm just outside of town and Hot Wheels, the toy car held its 40th Anniversary there, but the best thing about Speed is that it is only 10 more miles to LOGAN.

I could see the grain elevator in Logan for miles and I would be wishing I could hurry up and get there.

Home at last.  I don’t care what the weather is like there just isn’t any place like home. Logan isn’t very big population wise but all the people have the largest hearts in the world.  If someone sees you walking across the street and they say “how are you” it isn’t just a saying they mean it.

Walking across the street even in the middle of the block is alright.  You never have wait on the stop light to change green because there isn’t any stop lights in town and very few stop signs.

It would have been great to go to the reunion because it wouldn’t have been just my class from 1970. Anyone and everyone that graduated from Logan High School is invited to each and every yearly reunion.

I may never get to ride my Bicycle to Logan in the future.  This maybe the closest I ever get to making the ride but I can tell you the memories will last me a live time.  In my mind I felt I rode each and every mile of the way.
